Pipevine Swallowtail Battus philenor

Pipevine swallowtails are black with a row of pale spots near the wing margins. The males have blue-green iridescence on the hindwing. Bright orange spots on blue background are on the underside on the hindwing.

Giant Swallowtail Papilio cresphontes

The giant swallowtail is large and dark brown and yellow. The upperside is dark with yellow bands that cross. The tails on the hindwing have a yellow center. The underside is pale and the hindwing has a median band.

 

 

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Papilio glaucus

Males are yellow and females can be yellow or black. The yellow eastern tiger swallowtails have black tiger stripes. The yellow band is broken up into spots on the underside of the forewing. Females have more blue on the hindwing. The black females have a shadow of tiger stripes on the upperside and have a different pattern on the underside.

The head has a long snout like appendage. The upperside is brown and orange with white forewing spots. The underside can vary and be plain or spotted or smeared gray.
 

 

 

Red-banded Hairstreak Calycopis cecrops

Red-banded hairstreaks are small. The upperside is black and blue. They are gray-brown on the underside with white lines edged inwardly with a thick red band. There is a blue spot near the hindwing. 
 

 

Gulf Fritillary Agraulis vanillae

The upperside is bright red orange with black markings and a few white spots on the forewing. The underside is brown with silvery spots.

The upperside is orange-brown with black spots and median lines. The underside is brown, median and marginal patches not as dark.

The upperside is black with checkered black and tan fringe. There are two bands across each wing with small dots. The underside is a pale brown color with similar pattern.

The upperside is dark brown with light markings and hindwing bands. The underside of hindwing is light brown with three spots along the edge.
